Why Comfort Air Conditioning Fails in Server Rooms

Every month we visit a server room cooled by a household split unit bought from an electronics shop. It usually works — until the first heatwave, the first refrigerant leak, or the first weekend when nobody notices it has stopped.

People and servers need different air

Comfort air conditioning is designed for rooms where heat comes from a few people and some sunlight, running perhaps 8 hours a day. A server room produces concentrated heat 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A comfort unit running continuously wears out in a fraction of its rated life.

Humidity: the silent killer

Comfort units aggressively dehumidify. In a sealed server room this drives humidity below 20%, creating static electricity risk. Precision units control humidity within a safe band, protecting your hardware.

What to install instead

Close-control precision cooling units are designed for exactly this job: continuous duty, high sensible heat ratios, humidity control, redundancy, and alerting when something drifts out of range. They cost more upfront — and far less over their lifetime.

The takeaway

If your server room is cooled by the same type of unit as your living room, you are running on borrowed time. A thermal survey takes one visit and tells you exactly where you stand.
